We are based in the ACT, our driver trainers aim to support the safety of the transport industry. Drivers that are upgrading to a LR, MR, HR, HC or MC licence learn skills that apply directly to the type of vehicle they will be driving once licensed. Our instructors help those drivers to become confident while still showing respect to other road users.

Our experienced instructors don't just teach bus and truck drivers. We also provide training for recreational and lifestyle vehicles, including motorhomes.

2 Hour training sessions
Using CHVDT vehicles or your own vehicle, CHVDT will provide comprehensive training in 2 hour sessions. These training sessions are generally catered towards trainees who are coordinating their training around their work or family commitments.

1 day course
CHVDT offers 1 day training courses in LR,MR, HR, HC vehicles. MR (synchromesh) and HR (auto, non-synchro or synchromesh) are typically completed in 1 day. Students who have considerable experience in driving non-synchromesh vehicles may wish to complete their HR/HC training in one day. Please contact us to further discuss your specific requirements.

1.5 day course CHVDT delivers a 1.5 day training course for students who have little or no experience in HR (non-synchromesh) and HC vehicles. This provides a suitable amount of training time and enables the student to complete a full day of training followed by a good nights rest before completing their driving assessment. Please note that most HC students who have little or no experience in non-synchromesh licences are generally encouraged to obtain this licence over a 2 day period.

2 day course
CHVDT delivers a 2 day training course for students who have little or no experience in HC and MC vehicles. This provides a suitable amount of training time and enables the student to complete a full day of training followed by a good nights rest before continuing training and then their driving assessment.

Commercial Clients
CHVDT can tailor training packages to meet the needs of commercial clients. Commercial clients can use CHVDT vehicles or provide a company vehicle. CHVDT will travel to your site and deliver the training and assessment from your yard. To further discuss your company requirements please contact us.

CHVDT can provide group training and driver development programs to meet the needs of all transport companies.
CHVDT's driver training is practical and focused towards developing drivers for the 'real world'. CHVDT's training programs allow drivers the opportunity to drive a working vehicle, through a range of varying driving environments as required by the employer. CHVDT can provide local, refresher training or develop more specialised driver training courses encompassing steep decent (Clyde or Brown Mountain), snow driving, country roads or urban environments. Does CHVDT undertake training and assessment in both NSW and ACT?
Yes, CHVDT can provide training and assessment for both ACT and NSW licences and we also service the South Coast by arrangement.

What licence classes can CHVDT train and assess in?
CHVDT can assess Light Rigid (LR), Medium Rigid (MR), Heavy Rigid (HR) Heavy Combination (HC) Multi-combination (MC).
CHVDT can provide both training in auto, synchromesh and non-synchromesh gearboxes.

What happens if I cannot demonstrate the skills required?
First and formost we are a heavy vehicle driver training school. CHVDT has the skills and experience to train you to the required level to obtain your heavy vehicle licence. Prior to commencing the first lesson CHVDT will provide you the opportunity to drive the vehicle. Should you feel uncomfortable in this vehicle, or wish to train for a different licence class, CHVDT can complete the session with you in the appropriate vehicle.

Can I use my own vehicle?
Yes, you may be trained and assessed in your own vehicle. The vehicle must be roadworthy prior to conducting any training or assessment.

How long does it take?
The length of time it takes to train new driver depends on the trainee's experience and driving ability.
For NSW trainees, the NSW RMS stipulates that LR and MR trainees complete a minimum prescribed assessment time of 5 hours or 6 hours for HR and HC trainees.
ACT trainees must successfully demonstrate their driving ability in accordance with the ACT Heavy Vehicle Assessment Standards. This entails a minimum 6hrs training.

CHVDT must provide a minimum of 48 hours' notice to the RTA (ACT ROAD READY) prior to conducting an assessment.

How much does it cost?
CHVDT offers a variety of competitively priced training packages. Trainees may choose the package which most meets their needs and budget. CHVDT can tailor training packages around your requirements.

When do I need to pay?
All lessons are required to be paid if full upon booking.

How do I pay?
You may make your payment by cash or EFT. A $200 non-refundable deposit is required at the time of booking. The remaining balance must be paid before the training can commence either by cash or EFT.

What about if I need to cancel
We understand things change. CHVDT will refund for cancellations where more than 3 days notice has been provided, less administration fee of $200.
If less than 3 days notice is provided CHVDT will only provide you with a credit for your training session, no refund will be provided.

We are located in Hume ACT. Before you commence your training CHVDT will forward joining instructions to you with all the information you need to know.

Do I need any special equipment?
No. To ensure we can deliver your training in accordance with our OHS requirements, CHVTA requires you to bring:
• Wear enclosed shoes, suitable for driving
• Suitable clothing for driving a heavy vehicle, which may get dirty
CHVTA will provide you with a safety vest on the day
